Hazards and incarceration facilities research.

State of Colorado | 2021 | Academic Research

How can geospatial analysis and mapping help planners identify incarceration facilities at risk of environmental hazards? We know that incarcerated populations are uniquely vulnerable to hazard-induced disasters, but which facilities are exposed to which hazards in the state of Colorado? These were the questions CU’s Resilient Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity Interdisciplinary Research Team (RISE IRT) undertook in the summer of 2021. I had the opportunity to offer my expertise in geospatial analysis and mapping to the civil engineering department, where I designed and developed an original GIS-based methodology to answer these questions.
